Public Works Director - City of Downey, California

The City is seeking an engaging and collaborative leader to be their next Public Works Director. The Director will be responsible for the administration of the department’s division and activities, including Utilities (water and sewer) and Engineering divisions, and the management and coordination of the many projects set forth in the City’s aggressive $90 mil Capital Improvement Program, including 3 Water Treatment Facilities, the expansion of the Columbia Memorial Space Center, and the West Santa Ana Branch Light Rail project which includes a station in Downey.
The ideal candidate will have a general familiarity with water and sewer operations, and possess any combination of experience and education, including 8 years of increasingly responsible experience in Municipal Engineering, Office Engineering, Capital Improvements, Public Works Maintenance, and Water Utilities, with at least 5 years of supervisory experience. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or related field; a Master’s degree is preferred, and registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California is highly desired. The annual salary range is $176,354 - $215,153, and the City provides a competitive benefit package.
