Public Works Director - City of American Canyon, California

Located in the southern portion of world-famous, wine-growing Napa County, approximately 35 miles northeast of San Francisco, American Canyon is a growing community of 20,500 residents in more than 6 square miles. The City plans for a population of 30,000 by 2030.  The City employs approximately 80 FTE’s plus about 25 part-time/seasonal staff during peak summer season and has a FY 2020/21 General Fund budget of $20.5 million and a total budget of $68.4 million. The City organization is well respected by the community and enjoys a high level of community engagement. The Public Works Department includes engineering, transportation, development engineering/City Engineer, and street maintenance/storm drain. The department has a FY 2020/21 operating budget of $2 million and a CIP budget of $31.1 million, of which $20 million is for new projects.  The department has a staff of 12 full-time employees. The Public Works Director is appointed by and reports to the City Manager.  A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering, public administration, business administration or a closely related field is required; Master’s degree is desirable.  In addition, six years of increasingly responsible experience in public works and engineering, including four years of supervisory and administrative responsibility is required.  Professional Engineer registration is desirable.  Annual salary of $128,336 to $192,483 DOQE and CalPERS 2% @ 55 for Classic members.
