Police Commander - City of Menlo Park, CA

The City of Menlo Park is a city of beautiful, tree-lined neighborhoods and active commercial districts.  Located conveniently between the major metropolitan areas of San Francisco and San Jose, Menlo Park is home to approximately 33,000 residents in its 19 square miles.  Menlo Park’s residents reflect a range of backgrounds and interests who tend to tend to be well-educated and actively engaged in community life.  Known worldwide as the “Capital of Venture Capital,” Menlo Park is well situated to benefit from and help shape new technologies and markets originating from Silicon Valley.  The City hosts such major employers as SRI International, the U.S. Geological Survey, Meta (Facebook), Pacific Biosciences, E*Trade Financial Corporation, and CS Bio Co.  The Menlo Park Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency composed of 47 sworn peace officers and 22.5 professional civilian staff.

The City is seeking a strong, forward-thinking leader who is passionate about helping to move the department and the law enforcement profession forward.  The new Police Commander will be an important addition to a department that is well supported by its community, is community focused, and is willing to be innovative when facing new challenges.  The new Commander will recognize their important role in the mentoring of, and development of department staff.  The Commander reports directly to the Chief of Police.

A Bachelor’s degree is required.  A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is desired.  Graduation from Command College, FBI National Academy, Supervisory Leadership Institute, or comparable programs is preferred.  At least three (3) years of supervisory experience with a municipal or county law enforcment agency at the rank of Sergeant or above is required. The annual salary range is $160,572 to $234,259 DOQE.  City also offers an attractive benefits package.
