Police Chief - City of Daly City, CA

Known as the “Gateway to the Peninsula,” Daly City is located on the Pacific Ocean at the northernmost edge of San Mateo County, minutes away from San Francisco Bay.  Just eight miles south of downtown San Francisco, Daly City’s extensive transportation systems makes it easy to access nearby metropolitan areas.  The city is served by Bay Area Rapid Transit as well as by San Mateo and San Francisco transit systems.  This ease of travel affords residents the opportunity to participate in all the cultural, recreational, and economic activities of the Bay Area while avoiding the congestion and high costs of living and working in other Bay cities.   

Residents of Daly City enjoy a scenic seven-mile coast and a wide variety of recreational activities.  San Bruno Mountain, with 2,063 acres of diverse park land, offers spectacular views of the entire Bay Area and Pacific Ocean.  By Bay Area standards, Daly City boasts reasonably priced and conveniently located quality housing.  Many homes have spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, San Francisco Bay, or some of the most picturesque golf courses in the country, including the Olympic Club-Lakeside, the San Francisco Golf Club and Lake Merced Golf and Country Club.  The Daly City Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency composed of 111 sworn peace officers and 30 professional civilian staff. 

The City of Daly City is seeking an experienced leader to lead its Police Department.  The new Police Chief will recognize the shared responsibility and connection between themselves, the department, other city departments, and the community they serve.  They must understand the value of and need for community engagement and trust.  They must have the ability to connect with members of the community who historically have been fearful of law enforcement. The new Chief must be approachable, empathetic, and a good listener.  They must be inclusive and respect the diversity in the city. The Chief reports directly to the City Manager.

Any combination of experience, education and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the the knowledge and abilities would be at least two years’ experience in the rank of Police Captain in a California city of population of 80,000 or greater, graduation from high school and completion of at least 60 semester units of college-level education, or equivalent. Bachelor's or master's degree in law enforcement or related field highly desired. The annual salary range is $217,703 to $264,619 DOQE.  The city also offers an attractive benefits package.
