The City of Bell is looking for a seasoned law enforcement professional with a proven track record of leadership, integrity, and community engagement. The new Chief will be a proven relationship builder who is energetic, passionate, approachable, a strong communicator, and a champion for employees’ professional development. The Chief is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the department and being up to date on law enforcement best practices. The Chief reports directly to the City Manager.

The Bell Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency composed of 33 sworn personnel and 10 non-sworn professionals within five divisions: patrol, dispatch, investigations, code enforcement, and records. The Police Chief, a Captain, and a Lieutenant lead the Department. The FY 2024-25 operating budget is $9.6 million, with most allocated for salaries and benefits.

Candidates must have seven (7) years of progressively responsible administrative experience and supervisory management experience in law enforcement with a minimum of three (3) years at the management level. A Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field from and accredited university or college required. A Master’s degree in criminal justice or a related field from an accredited university or college is preferred. Possession of, or eligibility for a Possession of a California POST Management Certificate a requirement.

The current salary is “Subject to Negotiations” based on qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. The current salary for the position is $201,706. The City provides an outstanding benefit package.
