Parks & Public Works Director/City Engineer - City of San Marino, CA

Situated 12 miles from the majestic foothill mountains, the beautiful City of San Marino (population 13,327) is located northeast of Los Angeles in the San Gabriel Valley.  Incorporated in 1913, San Marino (3.75 square miles) is home to numerous recreational and cultural opportunities that complement all interests. 

The City is financially stable and secure with an Operating Budget of $30.1 million and Capital Budget expenditures totally $16.6 million in new projects for 2022/23. The City has a funded 5 year CIP with a wide range of projects for which the Director will be responsible for implementing.  The Parks & Public Works Department’s mission is to create and sustain the City’s precious community assets through a combination of physical assets, best management practices and policies, and skilled personnel.

The City of San Marino is seeking an engaging and dynamic public works and engineering professional who has a passion for preserving the City’s beauty and history to be its new Parks and Public Works Director.  The successful candidate will be an integral member of the City’s Executive Team, requiring collaboration and a solutions-focus.  The new Director will oversee the renovation of the $8.3 million San Marino Center, implementation of the Citywide Traffic Safety Plan, master planning of Stoneman (the City owned former school site), and address long-term Facility Maintenance Needs Assessment.  A typical background would be a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in civil engineering, public administration, or related field from an accredited college or university, and at least six years of increasingly responsible municipal experience in civil engineering, including three years of management and administrative responsibility in park, landscape, streets, fleet, facilities and sewer maintenance.  Possession of a valid Certified of Registration as a Civile Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors. The annual salary range is $143,496 to $182,172 (with the City Council having just authorized an additional 7% increase, to be retroactive back to July 1, 2022), and a competitive benefit package.
