The San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission is seeking a collaborative and experienced attorney with strong problem-solving skills to help advance the $2B expansion of the ACE service and other related transportation projects. As this is not a CalPERS member agency, an experienced City Attorney/County Counsel, Assistant City Attorney/Deputy County Counsel in a mid-sized or large public agency, or a retired annuitant from a CalPERS member agency, could extend their contributions and career in public service without the restrictions associated with working for another CalPERS employer. The Rail Commission is a JPA made up of the seven cities within San Joaquin County and the County of San Joaquin. The Rail Commission is also a member agency and the managing agency of the San Joaquin Joint Powers Authority (SJJPA) which oversees Amtrak’s operations of the San Joaquins intercity passenger rail service. The Commission staff is a tight knit and high functioning team of individuals who are committed to the success of the Commission and its’ initiatives. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the In-House Legal Counsel will analyze and consult on legislation, policies, regulations, render legal advice, attend Rail Commission and SJJPA regular and special meetings, and represent the Rail Commission and the SJJPA before governmental agencies, courts, and third parties. The typical background and experience include a Juris Doctorate degree, fifteen years of progressively responsible experience in the practice of law for a governmental jurisdiction, and maintaining admission to the Bar of the State of California. The annual salary range is $200,000 - $250,000 DOQE and an outstanding benefit package.
