Fire Chief - Scotts Valley Fire Protection District, CA

The Scotts Valley Fire Protection District is seeking a collaborative, proactive, forward-thinking Fire Chief to lead the Fire Protection District into the future.  Nestled within a county of breathtaking natural beauty, Scotts Valley provides the best of small-town living with the benefits of urban conveniences.  The greater surrounding area is a world-class destination for outdoor recreation including surfing, hiking, cycling, sailing, and fishing.   Other local draws include nearby beaches, majestic redwoods, and proximity to historic locations. 

The Fire Protection District serves nearly 20,000 residents over approximately 24 square miles out of two stations.  The Fire Chief oversees 28 employees, which includes Administrative Staff, Battalion Chiefs, Captains, Engineers, and Firefighter/Paramedics working a 48/96 shift. The District is currently in the process of annexing a neighboring jurisdiction and will soon relocate one of their Scotts Valley fire stations.

The typical background and experience required for this exciting opportunity includes a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible fire experience, including management experience.  The annual salary range for this position is currently $208,644 to $221,364 (increasing to $228,000 July 1, 2023).  Actual salary will be dependent upon the qualifications of the successful candidate.  The District provides Management Incentive Pay of $12,350 annually (increasing to $13,000 effective July 1, 2023).  Additionally, the District provides an excellent benefits package.
