Fire Chief - Cosumnes Community Services District, Elk Grove, CA

Located in California’s Central Valley about 15 miles south of Sacramento, the Cosumnes Community Services District (CSD) is an exciting, specialized autonomous special district that provides fire protection, emergency medical, parks, and recreation services to an estimated 205,000 persons. The CSD’s 157 square-mile service area includes the cities of Elk Grove and Galt, CA, and the unincorporated area of south Sacramento County.  The CSD employs 346 full-time and over 470 part-time staff, and has a 2020/21 FY budget of $130 million. 

This career opportunity is available with the announced retirement (December, 2020) of Fire Chief Michael McLaughlin, who has served the District for six years, the last three as chief. The Cosumnes Fire Department (CFD) is an eight-station, primarily suburban fire department, with rural service areas and some wildland interface. Nine fire companies and seven ambulance companies serve the service area.  The 2020/21 department budget is $56 million, supporting 214 FTEs. 

A bachelor’s degree (fire administration or related) and seven to ten years of management-level fire department experience, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, is required. In addition, the ability to maintain good working relationships with bargaining units, and experience with labor relations and/or negotiations is preferred.

The salary range for this position is $226,416 to $250,872, DOQE.  Comprehensive benefits.  Relocation assistance subject to negotiation.
