Fire Chief - City of El Cerrito, CA

El Cerrito is in western Contra Costa County and forms part of the highly urbanized area along the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay.  El Cerrito has a population of approximately 25,508 and covers an area of 3.9 square miles.  It is a community of highly educated residents due primarily to the proximity to UC Berkeley and the San Francisco Bay Area high-tech economy.  It is known for its temperate climate and breathtaking views of San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge from the hillside areas.  

The City is seeking an experienced fire professional to take on the role of Fire Chief in its highly trained and well-regarded Fire Department. The Chief reports directly to the City Manager and is an important member of the City’s executive management team. 

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: six years of command experience including two years of administrative and supervisory responsibility in an organized fire department, training equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in fire science, business administration, public administration, or related field, or equivalent to an Associate's degree in fire science, public administration, or related field and certification as a chief officer.Up to two years of education may be substituted on a five years experience is equivalent to one year of education basis. The annual salary range is $183,564 to $229,464* (*control point) DOQE.The city provides an outstanding benefit package.
