Finance Director - City of South Pasadena, California

The City of South Pasadena (pop. 26,047) is a charming community located only six miles from downtown Los Angeles on the west side of the San Gabriel Valley. It is unique for its size, directly providing the full array of services through eight operating departments, including Community Services, Finance, Fire, Library, Management Services, Planning and Building, Police, and Public Works. It is supported by a balanced General Fund budget of $40 million that illustrates the City’s commitment to long-term financial planning, cost-effective municipal services, and financial policies that recognize the need to fund future obligations.    

The City of South Pasadena is seeking a collaborative, highly effective communicator, able to administer the City’s financial affairs, and lead its Finance Department. The successful candidate must be a seasoned public sector professional with the ability to clearly communicate complex and detailed information in a manner that affords their listeners the opportunity to fully participate in guiding the City forward. Among the first priorities for the new Finance Director will be an assessment of the growing Finance team and status of the Department’s current projects. The new Finance Director will also be responsible for the implementation of the new Department policies and procedures.  The ideal candidate must have a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a related field; experience with a California municipality & Certification as a Public Accountant is desirable; 5 years of increasingly responsible financial experience in accounting and financial work, including at least 2 years in a public agency; or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.  The annual salary range is $$133,032 - $178,284, and the City provides a competitive benefit package.
