Director of Human Resources -City of Hayward, California

The Human Resources Department has a dedicated and committed staff of 13 and FY 20/21 budget of $12,933,632. The department oversees Benefits Administration, Employee and Labor Relations, Organizational Health, Recruitment and Selection, and Workplace Safety. The department serves as a strategic business partner and provides leadership, expertise, support, and guidance to its internal and external customers.
As a member of the executive leadership team, the Director will be a seasoned human resources generalist with labor relations and negotiations experience, particularly in a public safety environment. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who is knowledgeable of innovative approaches to talent management, succession planning, and recruitment strategies to attract and retain a high-performing and diverse workforce. The Director will be committed to goals and values of achieving racial equity, diversity, and inclusion.
A bachelor’s degree with major study in business, public administration, personnel administration, or a closely related field as well as eight years’ experience in all phases of a public personnel program, including two years in a supervisory capacity is required.
Annual salary range of $170,352 to $207,022 DOQE (anticipated salary is $189,092 - $229,798 effective January 1, 2021, pending City Council approval). Excellent benefits including CalPERS 2.5% at 55 (Classic).
