The Town of Sedona, Arizona (pop. 11,000, elev. 4,500, 19 sq. mi.), was incorporated in 1988 and is one of the western United States’ premier tourism, recreation, retirement, viticulture, and art centers, all of which contribute to its economic base. Characterized by massive red-rock formations, as well as the contrasting riparian areas of Oak Creek Canyon, the area encompassing this beloved community is considered as beautiful as many of our national parks. Sedona is about 35 miles south of Flagstaff, and about two hours north of Phoenix and Sky Harbor Airport. The $51.2 million budget supports 140 FTEs.
The Deputy City Manager (DCM) serves as the City Manager’s chief assistant, supervises various departments, and serves in the City Manager’s absence. The DCM is the City Manager’s right hand, the one who helps her implement city council policy initiatives and see important projects through to completion, and a person of the highest integrity.
A bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, or a related field is required, and an MPA or MBA are strongly preferred. A minimum of six years of experience in municipal management are required. The City will consider any combination of education and experience equivalent to the foregoing. A strong background in municipal and budgetary management is preferred, as is demonstrated progressively responsible experience in municipal administration. The annual salary range for this position is $110,000 to $150,000, depending upon the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. Comprehensive benefits.
