Considered one of California’s finest planned communities, the City of Foster City is located midway between San Francisco and San Jose, in the heart of the Silicon Valley. The City is made up of breathtaking shorelines and lagoons and offers its citizens an unsurpassed quality of life.
Foster City is both a general-law city and special district (Estero Municipal Improvement District) with a Council-Manager form of government. Incorporated in 1971, Foster City currently has seven departments that include Police, Public Works/Parks Maintenance, City Manager’s Office, Communications/City Clerk, Financial Services/City Treasurer and Human Resources. The Fire Department has transitioned to the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department (SMC Fire).
The organization has a total of 164 full-time equivalent positions.
The newly designed Deputy City Manager position will provide leadership and oversight to the new community services function. Formerly the recreation division within the Parks and Recreation Department, the new function will help continue to build an inclusive and engaged city where residents can come together to celebrate and contribute to the community. In addition to help create and design this new area, the Deputy City Manager will also provide day-to-day operational and administrative oversight and assist the City Manager in all areas of public administration and municipal governance as assigned. The ideal candidate will be a clear communicator who effectively builds partnerships with a track record of effectiveness and collaboration.
Candidates with five plus years of increasingly responsible experience in public administration, community engagement and management with a Bachelor’s degree in public administration, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree or continuing graduate work in administration or management is desirable. The annual salary range is $161,628 - $196,464 DOQE, and the city provides an exceptional benefit package.
