County Administrator - Contra Costa County, California

Contra Costa County, with over 1.15 million residents is one of the nine counties in the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Area and covers 733 square miles.  The County includes varied urban, suburban, industrial, agricultural and port areas, contains 19 incorporated cities, and has one of California’s most heterogeneous populations.  The County provides a full range of services through its 25 departments and 9,900 full-time employees and for FY 2020/2021 has a total budget of $4.5 billion with a General Fund budget of $1.8 billion.  

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree with a major in public administration, business administration or closely related field, Master’s degree desirable.  Preferred experience as a chief executive or assistant in a county and/or city including responsibility for managing or assisting in the management of the operations of a large organization, as well as the analysis and management of budget and finance programs and the coordination of varied programs, services, and activities.  California experience would be a plus, as would experience with an organization of comparable size and complexity.  The annual salary for this position is currently $381,000, with excellent benefits.  The new County Administrator’s annual salary will be determined based on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.
