The City of Corning is a pleasantly rural and diverse community in Tehama County, California, located 19 miles south of Red Bluff, 25 miles northwest of Chico, and about 112 miles north of Sacramento. The population was 8,244 at the 2020 census. Corning was incorporated as a city in 1907 and is 3.55 square miles in area. Corning is easily accessible by Interstate 5 and State Route 99. The community was named after John Corning, a railroad official.

The City of Corning is seeking an experienced public administrator to oversee the community focused delivery of municipal services as carried out by the talented staff who enjoy working in a stable and supportive organizational culture. The City Manager is responsible for ensuring the implementation of the City Council’s priorities and for providing sound and effective management of the City through the day-to-day management of all City operations.   The City Manager serves as the director of finance and human resources and should be knowledgeable of municipal finance and human resource principles and practices.

Any combination of experience, education and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be eight years of progressively responsible experience in an administrative, managerial, or staff capacity in a municipal organization, involving responsibility for the planning, organization, implementation, and supervision of varied work programs.  Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) is desirable. 

The City of Corning offers a generous salary and benefits package.  The annual salary for this position is $122,105 - $149,915, DOQE. CalPERS retirement, medical, dental, vision coverages and other benefits are also provided by the City.
