Renowned for its natural beauty and outstanding quality of life, the City of Auburn is seeking an outgoing, energetic City Manager who is passionate about the unique characteristics of this widely-celebrated “Endurance Capital of the World.” Majestic views of the American River Canyon, vistas of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, wooded hills and ravines, and streams winding through small valleys characterize the gorgeous location of this community. Auburn’s 7.5 square miles are home to a progressive, diverse, and civic-minded population of approximately 14,611 people.
The City Manager is appointed by a five-member City Council and oversees a staff of 83 FTEs providing a full range of services including municipal airport, business development, building inspection, facility maintenance, community development, finance, human resources, fire, police, and public works activities. The Fiscal Year 2019/20 total budget is $32.7 million.
The ideal candidate will bring a general understanding of key local government financial and labor issues and public safety. Proven success in economic development is desired as well as an understanding of the benefits and challenges of a municipal airport and business park. A Bachelor’s degree with major course work in public administration, business administration, or a related field is required; a Master’s degree is desirable.
