Originally incorporated in 1866 as the City of San Buenaventura, today this municipal government serves nearly 110,000 residents within its 32 square miles.
The City of Ventura is investing in the future, establishing a full-service Information Technology Department. The City is looking for a Chief Technology Officer to lead the City’s efforts in delivering IT solutions to improve the way business is done. The new Department Head will be responsible for leading a team of dedicated IT professions and establishing an IT Department that provides world class service to meet customer and project demands. The 2021/22 adopted budget includes $6.6 million and a staff of 23.
The Chief Technology Officer must have strong leadership skills and dedicated to working collaboratively with the other departments to keep the City current and future thinking. The ideal candidate must be able to create, express, and promote a “vision” and strategic direction for Information Technology, have advanced knowledge of the principles of cyber security, and experience managing the assessment and selection of information systems.
The position requires a combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in management information systems, computer science, business administration, public administration, or closely related field, and 6 years of increasingly responsible professional Information Technology management experience, including 2 years of supervisory responsibility. Experience in a governmental setting and possession of a master’s degree are preferred. The annual salary range is $142,475 - $190,918, with excellent benefits.
