Assistant Fire Chief - City of Yuba City, California
Yuba City, with its 68,000 residents, is located in Sutter County 40 miles north of Sacramento. This ISO Class 2 Fire Department, currently with 54 personnel, operates from five stations throughout the city and in 2017 responded to over 11,000 calls. In addition to providing fire suppression, prevention and education services, the department also has specialized teams including an Advanced Technical Rescue Team, Hazardous Materials Team, Tactical Emergency Medical Services Team, as well as a Fire Investigation Team and a Public Education Team. This Assistant Fire Chief position was created in anticipation of the retirement of the current Fire Chief, and as such the City is seeking a strong leader to act as second in command. The ideal candidate will have a strong administrative, financial, and operational background and will be able to demonstrate exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills. An Associate’s degree coupled with 14 years of experience or a Bachelor’s degree coupled with 12 years of experience (including a minimum of three years in a supervisory or command position at a level equivalent to the rank of Battalion Chief) required, as are a California State Chief Officer Certification and a California State Fire Officer certification (or equivalents). Salary range $114,546 to $139,235 with excellent benefits.
