Assistant Director of Community Development - City of Stockton, California

Stockton is a renewed city!  Stockton is a city that is perhaps better prepared for the future than any other city in California, with a thorough understanding of its operations and finances, and the tools to adjust to economic conditions for decades into the future. There are 38 dedicated City employees, supplemented with additional contract staff, serving the community of Stockton in the Community Development Department with a budget of $10.3 million.  The department is comprised of the Building & Life Safety Division, Planning & Engineering Services Division, and the Business Operations Division.  As the new Assistant Director in the Community Development Department, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to make an impact on the community’s future through quality development.The ideal candidate will bring proven technical skills in planning, organizing, and coordinating a variety of large and complex Community Development services, programs and staff. The Assistant Director will also be providing highly complex and responsible assistance to the Community Development Director; acting as in the absence of the Director; and performing related work as assigned. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business or public administration, urban planning, or a closely related field required, and three years of increasingly responsible professional experience in planning and community development which has included program planning, development, and administration. Experience in a public agency setting is desirable. The current annual salary range for the Assistant Director of Community Development is $121,710-$156,193.
