Located just 55 miles east of San Francisco in Eastern Contra Costa County, the City of Brentwood sits astride two regions, the San Francisco Bay area and the Northern San Joaquin Valley (a three-county region comprised of San Joaquin, Stanislaus, and Merced counties). With over 230 acres of parkland, nearly 100 parks including community, neighborhood, pocket parks and facilities, an aquatic center, senior center, and 19 miles of beautiful multi-use trails, Brentwood provides outstanding recreational opportunities to support healthy lifestyles. Incorporated in 1948, Brentwood operates under the Council/Manager form of government. The five-member City Council enjoys an effective and cooperative working relationship and includes a directly elected Mayor and four members currently elected at large. The City Council appoints the City Manager and in-house City Attorney.  The City of Brentwood adopts 2-Year Operating Budgets, with an operating budget of $311.6 million and a 5-Year Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Budget projected at $203.6 million for 47 capital projects.  With a staff of 315 full-time employees, the city provides a full range of services in the operating departments of police, parks and recreation, public works and engineering (including solid waste, water, and wastewater enterprises), community development, finance and information systems, and human resources/risk management. With the recent announcement by the current Assistant City Manager’s retirement, the City Manager seeks candidates with Economic Development and land use background to join his executive team.  A seasoned professional with a good understanding of City Management, Council relations, and community engagement skilled at relationship management and consensus building, is an ideal candidate who can add value to the Executive Team. The Assistant City Manager will supervise three staff and be primarily responsible for leading and implementing the city’s Economic Development Strategic Action Plan, overseeing the Public Information Office functions and will assist with community development related projects and other special projects, as needed. 

The annual salary range is $180,624 to $219,549, and is currently under review. Placement within this range is dependent upon qualifications.
